The National Exchange Club is an all-volunteer service organization for men and women who want to serve their communities, develop leadership skills and enjoy new friendships. Exchange is made up of more than 800 clubs and nearly 28,000 members throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. In 1979 members of The National Exchange Club voted to adopt child abuse prevention as their national project. To date, the NEC Foundation and its Exchange Club Centers have helped more than 140,000 children and 100,000 families eliminate child abuse in their daily lives.
We invite you to visit the websites of the Houston area Exchange Clubs to learn more about how they are making a positive difference across our community.
ESCAPE Family Resource Center was founded in 1983 by Houston area chapters of The National Exchange Club as part of a national project to prevent child abuse and neglect. Our name honors those founders. A 501 (c) (3) nonprofit, privately supported agency, ESCAPE is dedicated to teaching parents how to honor their children and treat them with respect. We equip parents for life’s most important job.
Parents can only teach children what they know. Adults who suffered through child abuse when they were young often repeat the hurtful behavior in their own families. Even those who love their children may become abusive when angry or under stress. At ESCAPE, we stop child abuse before it starts.
The mission of the ESCAPE Family Resource Center is "to prevent child abuse and neglect before a child is hurt by providing intervention, education, and support programs to families in crisis".
ESCAPE is not a building or a program. It is people.
The most important thing I learned was how to listen to my child’s thoughts and think before responding.
