Parent Aide Mentors
Parent Aide Mentors provide home visitation services to graduates of ESCAPE's child abuse and neglect prevention programs. As a mentor, you will be matched with one family seeking to integrate the skills learned in ESCAPE's classes into their homes. You will visit with your assigned family for 1-1/2 hours a week, meet with the Parent Aide Coordinator once a week and attend monthly in-service trainings. You will play a key role in monitoring the family's progress in strengthening parent-child communication and interaction in their homes.
Parent Aide Mentor Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years olds.
- Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent. College preferred.
- Successful completion and passing of ESCAPE's volunteer application, which includes references, criminal background, and CPS registry checks.
- A valid driver's license and proof of current auto liability insurance.
- Willingness to learn the causes of child abuse and prevention techniques.
- Believe there are effective alternatives to physical punishment.
- Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends to meet with clients, supervisor, and attend in-service trainings. Ability to be accessible to clients as needed.
- One year commitment to work with a matched parent aide family.
- Volunteer in a full delivery of Building Confident Families or Exceptional Parenting .
- Complete a one-hour General Volunteer Orientation.
- Complete a two-hour Parent Aide Orientation.
